I avoid dating non-whites because i don't want aggrevation from my family. Does this make me racist?
In essence, the word "racism" has a few common definitions according to various dictionaries. Firstly, "racism" refers to "the belief that races have distinctive cultural characteristics determined by hereditary factors and that this endows some races with an intrinsic superiority over others," "a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination," "abusive or aggressive behaviour towards members of another race on the basis of such a belief," and/or "hatred or intolerance of another race or other races." Avoiding to date non-Whites to avoid aggravation from your parents does not follow from the meanings I listed. Therefore, you are not racist for avoiding to date non-Whites for the reason you stated, per-se. You can, however, be racist for other reasons. I avoid dating non-Blacks too, but mostly to avoid discrimination, mainly from racist parents. My parents do not have rules against it.
