Underwear during Laparoscopic Appendectomy?

Im 13 and recently had an appendectomy and was asked to not wear underwear and I was wonderin if this was the same for everybody? it weirded me out cuz it had nothin to do with down there u no? do girls get to wear their underwear and bra? is tht normal? or any surgery even?
